1979 was year of introducion Polonez in Yugoslavia, according this page: http://www.avto-magazin.si/avtomobilski-testi/?n=9020 Zastava plant in Kragujevac assembled limited numbers of [B01] as "Zastava Polonez". This is a bit odd car. Has "POLMO" badge on grill which teoretically indicates Polonez cars made for export markets only. |

We discussed about it here: /vehicle_291519-Zastava-125p-115CC-1980.html For exports fits. I'm curious could the "FSO" lettering replace the "Polmo" badge somwhere in the 1982? Edit: In export and as it is early one, it will be a 1500. Till 1980 1500 existed only in one version, so the code will be B01.AA -- Last edit: 2011-01-01 22:32:30 |

Impossible to say correct year of this change because muddle in FSO archives. "POLMO" badge doesn't indicate export cars with sure. Many cars made for domestic market had this badge as new. "FSO" grill badge looks different - just silver letters on black plastic crate. "POLMO" is solid nickled plaque. |

I know how does it look, this was just OT question. But FSO lettering was not used on domestic market since 1978, no? By elimination, at first glance, first cars I found with it are from 1982... But maybe are also some older.Edit: As wikipedia says POLMO in old shape was dissolved in 1982, maybe it was somehow "connected"... -- Last edit: 2010-06-25 16:23:17 |

Well, 1982 year of change is possible, of course. Hard (however not my) proof stands in my garage. It's 07/1982 Polonez 1500 for domestic market. Has "POLMO" plate. Hasn't clock and tachometer as most 1982 cars reportedly. First (1982-2008) owner's character excludes later car's customizing by adding extra plates. |

Yes, I saw it (the Polonez of your friend), just wanted to ask from what month it is... I would vote for a bit of "classical mess" - some perhaps had FSO, some other sitll POLMO... , but this do not make things more easy... Polonez in 1982 film: /vehicle_159142-FSO-Polonez-B01-1982.html Also without foglamps, so rather quite young one. Edit: Borewicz had Polonez with FSO tag already in 1981. Oldest cars I could find with this badge are from 1980, let's use this year like for now. Well of course it means, that both badges were used, perhaps to 1983 (or none of them as it also happend). Also in ca 1981 the black air intake was added to the hood, but as usually also not all cars had it. -- Last edit: 2011-01-01 23:13:46 |

I want to believe the POLMO-to-FSO badge change came with holiday break 1982. ![]() |

I said this for a thousand times and I'll say again - most of polish cars weren't re-named to Zastava in Yugoslavia. Most of those cars carried "Polski Fiat" or "FSO" name in their documents. Even importer of FSO parts said that to me (http://avala.biz/prodaja/index.php?cPath=37) - Polonez was NEVER called "Zastava Polonez", just "FSO Polonez" or even "Fiat Polonez". Forget what is written on the net - I'm telling you what I saw on the "crime scene" ! Anyway, you can check it here - webmaster@zastavanacionale.com - feel free to write in English, since admin's native language is English. He knows a lot about Zastava history and he told me - most of the cars that came from Poland trough Zastava had the names I wrote. You can also check this with Mr. Danijel Kadarjan - writer of Zastava's monography ("Zastava - story about a brand"). After I'm done with my exams, I'll try to find some polish cars' traffic license (guess that is how it's called in English) and scan it (if I manage find any FSO car ). ![]() ![]() |
