Its a Saab 95, wagon version of Saab 93/96. This is 60's product, later in 70's bumper were changed to bigger safety versions. Lots of smoke in picture too, so its probaply with 2-stroke engine. I think that 2-stroke was only in production, so I´d say this is 1965 or so. http://213.28.103.197/www-saab95-net/rr/paakuvaRR.jpg That one in picture is 2-stroke model from 1965

Judging by the blue smoke it will be a 2-stroke version. If it dates from 1965+, it would be called Station Wagon [95].

Amber directional tail lights in 1965 for USA? Not too early ?

Yes, I have seen this amber indicator in our market...

By the shape and position of the front bumper, it´s a 1965+. Amber turn signals was also news for 1965, might have been available on other markets earlier though.
I think this beige colour was introduced for 1967, there was a bright yellow available in 1966 but this looks too pale to be that one.
So this is likely to be a 1967 model since it lacks the sidemarkers required for 1968.

Hmm... If this is USA spec, I would have certainly see the federally mandate backup light in 1967 model year. However, I actually haven't seen the 1967 SAAB 95 in person yet :/

Could this picture be a bit washed out? It may not produce the correct paint color as shown :/

I checked the net for some pictures on the colours, I found some. And the 1966 yellow is less intense than I recalled so it could indeed be that color on this one. The colors of this film aren´t very true to the reality.

I also found these pictures of a 1967 SAAB V4 Station Wagon: http://www.flickr.com/photos/moonm/318346267/in/photostream/

This one also lacks the backup light, it should have been mounted to the left of the number plate. The plate is californian, or am I mistaken?
We had another V4 Station Wagon from -68 some time ago, that also lacked the backup light. That one was also stripped of trim and side lights though, but could there have been some exceptions?

This white one looks very original on the pictures and there appears to be no trace of the backup light, from what can be seen.

IIRC There were no federal sidemarker and only federal backup lights in 1968 model year in the 95/96 series in our market. I once drove the 1968 SAAB 96 3-cylinder engine version and I don't remember seeing the federal sidemarkers.

I am not even sure if I remember seeing the rear federal sidemarker on the 1969/70 version. There is integral sidemarker in part of the front indicator that is being used on 1969/73 SAAB 95/96 in our market...

It might even applied to the Volkswagen Beetle [Typ 1] series in our market in the same manner....

This is how it looked in the 1968 sales brouchure, a small sidemarker on the fender. And the backup light to the left of the number plate on the wagon. The rear fenders aren´t visible though, maybe a similar sidemarker there. Or it might wasn´t necessary on the sedans since the rear lights was visible from the side as well.
