What happens to the car is a real shame  I hope they used another car in less-good state for that:

Yet another gratuitous Hollywood destruction of a rare and beautiful vintage car.

I think, the destroyed car was rather a wreck. If you see the details on the thumbnails, you see the matt colour (maybe former white, see the gap of the open door), the missing chrome-wheels (just simple black iron-rims) etc.

P.S. It's no apologation at all, but it makes it a little bit more bearable.

No panic. It was just a wreck. Have a closer look and relax.

Quite sure. Check the thumbnails, expecially the view of the left side. Just the different dirt-traces, for example on the back bumper, are showing, that it's a different car.

If you compare the main image with the first thumb of the destruction scene you will see that the car there has lost its hubcaps and has bad paintwork (even though the shot is blurred).

Returning to police car fan's point, the emotional effect upon the audience is greater if an old or expensive car is destroyed rather than a common cheap clunker. Furthermore, a character always appears more interesting if he or she has a classic or distinctive car meaning that it is more likely the car will be destroyed as quite often cars used by main characters a lot in movies tend to be.

If anyone is interested in "maybe restorable" classic cars: here http://www.rmauctions.com/CarList.cfm?SaleCode=AL12 you can have over 170 vehicles -in fact more or less wrecks, as those, who know that "collection" have confirmed. Nothing is driveable, many cars not even rollable.
Also /vehicle_20469-Made-for-Movie-Hannibal-8.html ist on auction.

@Sandie: we shouldn't ignore the viewpoint, that it's more than obviously a cheaply made trash movie. The title says that. Plus the chicks http://pics.imcdb.org/0is197/002449b54.461.jpg plus the location: desert. Plus the cheap cardboard background /vehicle_282733-Kawasaki-ZX-6R.html . Plus the fact, that Jale has contributed it.
