This was my car when they rented it to do the movie.
Used for 2 weeks for about 30 seconds of screen time.
Plus side, they gave it the fresh coat of Orange paint. It was the stock green with Dark Green cloth top.
I replaced the original Green cloth interior with Green Vynil.
1970 Chevelle Malibu, 350 engine
Rake from station wagon coil springs in the rear.
Driven by Keanu Reeves in the movie.
They found it because it was up for sale in the Tradin Times

Why the '7' in the back window, particularly as it would be reversed when seen from behind?

The '7' is on the front windshield - as confirmed by the thumbnail.

Thumb does not explain why the bottom of the 7 is obscured by something inside the car in the main.

it is not obscured, if you look at the thumbnail you can see the lott attendant starting to scrape it (the price of the car) off but Keanu Reeves' character was too impatient and drove off

He could got the Mercury Zephyr or the Pacer wagon, instead of the Chevelle.
