pre-1953, probably 1952-53, not older. The painting is shiny and not matt. The bumpers are irritating me. I think, they aren't original for the "Brezel".

What country did this take place? If we can narrow down what year did West Germany started exporting these vehicle.

I don't know if this is earlier or not, but I could guess this is 1951/52

Indeed, the bumper is too new; these came in 1953, at the same time as the quarterlights in the front door windows and the oval taillights with extra glass on top of them. But I dont know how to determinate the exact year...

It seems to be Yugoslavia, I don´t know when their imports started but since it´s filmed in 1961 the car might have been imported as used. Regular export started during 1948 even if some cars were made in the factory ruins before that and some of them were surely exported too.

The car is probably built between june 1949 and april 1951, it seems to be in Export/De Luxe trim with shiny paint and sidetrim. But it lacks trim surrounding rear windows that came in april -51, side windows didn´t get trim until october -52 along with quarter windows, 15 inch wheels and the bumpers fitted to this car. Another news for october 1952 was brake lights on top of rear light houses.

So bumpers are not original even if the combination of split windows and these bumpers existed for a short period between october -52 and march -53 when the oval window was introduced.

No problem, I just have to look in the VW-export-statistic 1971-75. I have copies of them. There is the first date of export remarked. ;)

The official export to Yugoslavia started in May 1953.

The first cars were xported to the Netherlands in May 1947, followed by Denmark in April 1948, Switzerland May 1948, Sweden July 1948, Belgium August 1948, Luxemburg September 1948.

The first Non-European export-country was the USA in January 1950, followed by Egypt in February 1950.

Was the first 2 Volkswagen Typ 1 unoffically exported to USA in 1949 as the ad states? That is way I understand. I have books on VW Beetles and Transporter in my own library.

In 8 January 1949 the first Volkswagen Beetle to be exported to the USA was put in the ship 'Werkendam' of the Holland-America-Line. This was organised by Ben Pon, the Dutch VW importer, on request of VW boss Heinrich Nordhoff. But it was no success, yet.

Not to forget: Ben Pon was the founder of the VW Typ 2.

Uberearly Typ 1 knowledge update, from nice Swedish source.

First four press cars left the ferry July 14th 1948, indeed.
However no cars were sold to private persons in 1948.
The First was sold in January 5th 1949, second in March.
