Finally my long search for a movie/TV-programme with this rare Norwegian car is over!![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This car was found on some guys backlot in New Jersey, USA and was brought back to Norway by some enthusiasts. The car was built in glass fibre reinforced polyester and the engine was a two-stroke 770cc watercold Gutbrod engine with Bosch fuelinjection producing 30hp. Fuelconsumtion is 0.5 litre/10 km and top speed is 130 km/h. ![]() ![]() ![]() Here it's explained that the hubcaps were renovated by using old Opel caps with the T-logo added. |

Here is a homepage about it: http://home.online.no/~bjarnli/troll/ but you must check the Norwegian version unfortunately (there is no info on the English version). |

What does Troll mean? |
◊ 2009-10-10 19:54 |
I checked the standard Dutch dictionary ('de Grote van Dale'): Trol (m; -len; trolletje) [<Oudnoors ~ troel], 1 (Noordse myth.) (boze) geest, syn. demon; 2 (provot.) burgerlijk persoon, iem. uit de consumptiemaatschappij. Seeing the tormentated lines and the size of this car, I can imagine the first meaning of the word... ![]() Edit: (provot.) means 'provotaal' the language used by the Dutch anarchistic movement in the 60s. -- Last edit: 2009-10-10 19:56:58 |

Is Sportcupé correct? Or should it be Sportcoupé? |
◊ 2009-10-10 21:05 |
Sportcupé is correct. Back then, it was common to spell foreign words the way we pronounced them, for example cola became kola, bacon became beiken, camping became kamping etc. Similiar in how they adopt foreign words in Japanese, icecream is aiskurimu, toire is toilet and rajio is radio. We ceased to use some of these spellings over the time. Since I'm a Norwegian myself, I would say the appropiate spelling is Sportskupé, but not in this case, as it happens it was the official modelname given. I hate the politicians from that time for making the domestic car production come to a permanent halt. -- Last edit: 2009-10-10 21:09:39 |

Have I understood the Troll-Homepage correctly, that only 6 cars were built? |
◊ 2009-10-11 15:29 |
Its style somehow reminds me Corgi Classics models - it is positive resemblance. ![]() |

According to that site 15 bodies were built but only 5 complete cars (including one prototype) were assembled, one of the bodys were assembled by a private person and in 2002* only 4 was known to still exist. The whereabouts of the rest of the bodies doesn't seems to be known. *It seems that the hompage hasn't been updated since 2002 and that car we have here was found in 2005 (if they didn't know about it before) then maybe there is 5 known to exist today. |

From the side it looks kinda like flattened Saab 96. |

The 5 cars were made mostly out of german parts, anyhow. |
