This is not a 1950 but a 1951 Ford Custom Tudor sedan ( 70 B ) as judged by taillights , trim and bumpers .A Ford Custom DeLuxe did not exist .In 1951 the lines were either the basic De Luxe or the upper scale Custom. |

OK , I checked with the 1951 period catalogs and you are right ,we can call it a 1951 Ford Custom DeLuxe Tudor Sedan ( series 1 HA six or 1 BA V8 ,body style 72) .It is somewhat confusing since Ford Customs were in essence always DeLuxe because they had the upper scale trims and finition. On 1951 Ford Custom cars the nameplates on the side trim and dash always mention " Custom" and nowhere " DeLuxe", " Custom DeLuxe" only appears in factory litterature .And on the cars ," DeLuxe" nameplates did only appear on the lower line DeLuxe models without side trim. Many encyclopedias and books just mention the Custom line and the DeLuxe line probably to avoid confusion.I guess somewhere everyone wants Luxe! |
