The Sunbeam 16 was introduced for 1927 as a replacement for the four cylinder, 2121cc 14/40. It was a fashionable 'light six' of 67.5 x 96mm, 2035cc. This was quite short stroke by Sunbeam standards and the design rather followed that of the Talbot 14/45 that George Roesch had designed a little earlier. It could reach 4,300rpm and produced about 50bhp. A saloon would cost £650, which was not cheap- this tourer, about £600. The 16 was the least expensive and most successful Sunbeam model of the time and 1,200 were built in 1928. |
