Trans Am, 1979. California license plate says "QWIKTA" and the bumper sticker says "My other toy has tits."

Something interesting: The scene at the end where the car's engine quits and they're trying to restart it was a genuine blooper. The car's transmission was failing, and started slipping severely while the actors drove off in it (that's why the backup lights keep coming on, as the driver was trying different gears).

The actress got out and looked off in the direction of the camera, expecting the director to yell cut, but he ordered the camera to pan right slightly to cover up the mechanics rushing to the aid of the car. Before they could get to it, the car slipped back into gear, and the scene proceeded. So the filmmakers just decided to dub in a starter sound to make it sound like the engine quit...and it ended up as quite an amusing scene, too.

Despite the shaker and unique rear exhaust?

I believe Shakers were still offered in 1980 (on the 403-powered models), so it could indeed be an 1980.

Or, the plate in the film could possibly be fake, but it could be coincidence that the registration also exists on a real life Trans Am.

Or it is a 1979 car registered in 1980? Or do that site give car's real year and not first registration?

If the CA BAR website says 1980, then that would be the year on the car's title.

I suppose the car's exhaust could have been repaired or modified.

Did the DVD commentary mention anything about using two vehicles? Sometimes productions will have a backup model in case one breaks down. One could have been a 1979, and one could have been a 1980.

I'm sure there are plenty of explanations.

I've watched it with the commentary, and they never mentioned the car apart from talking about the transmission slipping in the end.
