And of course, they wreck another irreplacable piece of history for no reason whatsoever.

Also: If that truck hit that Chevelle hard enough to split it in half, the truck would be a hell of a lot more damaged than that. In fact, it would be undrivable.

The '71-'72 is a good year but the fact that it's a automatic may be a downside to real car guys but atleast a hot chick lasts the whole movie. :p

With front divider indicator indicates 1971 version only.

No, 1972. Multiple divider chrome bars. The '71 only had one, in the center of the grille.

I think I misunderstand you. I am talking about turn signal/parking lamps at the front of the car. This one has divider indicates 1971 version. The 1972 version does not have divider.

My reference was to the grille - it has 2 heavy horizontal chrome dividers (1972) instead of one center divider (1971).

They could've used a mockup for the crash. Why does everyone always assume they use the main filming car for a crash scene? Especially today? The flipped-over Chevelle is probably a junker version fixed up just enough to resemble the main one. Every single time a classic car is totaled in-story everyone becomes enraged without pausing to wonder if they didn't use a less-pristine one for a stunt double.

For me this one does't look like a mockup. It's condition looks too good. Sometimes you can see at the thumbnail-shots, that the driving car is annother than the destroyed, but here it's obviously not like that.

There is enough money for destroying really good cars. See here: /vehicle_239336-Mercedes-Benz-280-SE-Convertible-W111-1969.html

Usually at B-, C- D- etc. movies or TV-series there is less money, so they are using mocked up wrecks.

Filmmakers are usually liberals who always talk about environmentalism and being green. To them, wrecking cars like this is a good thing because it rids the country of smoke-spewing gas hogs. You have to understand how these guys think. They all take pride in the fact they drive Priuses.
Has anyone actually written to the movie companies letting them know they dont appreciate this? They would never hurt nature or animals because people get too enraged. Let them know we want these beautiful old cars preserved whether they like them or not. I dont go to the theatres anymore because I boycott filmmakers for destroying these cars. I borrow other peoples copies if I want to see a movie.Maybe us old car lovers should start circulating petitions or writing letters.

Sounds good, CKO. I would sign.
(But don't expect Hollywood to listen)

Heh, good luck with that! :p They're not car preservationists, they're in the entertainment business. For 99.9% of movie viewers, the use (or misuse) of this car in this way was very entertaining.

I don't know Owlman. Ive never heard anyone say how exciting it was to see a classic wrecked. People either dont care what kind of car it is and half the time don't even KNOW,or are car guys who cringe when they see a classic being wrecked.I know in "Fast And Furious", the scene with the Charger caused a big uproar with hobbiyists. I am yet to hear 1 person say they thought it was fun watching a Charger get wrecked.

But if the general public doesn't crave it, Hollywood wouldn't provide it.
(Or maybe Hollywood is creating the craving.)
Either way, they just don't care as long as it brings in the bucks.

I think congress should pass some type of law preventing the destruction of old classic cars no matter the reason for wanting to do so. Unless maybe its a total piece of crap and completely unfixable in any way shape or form. Course they wont but thats what i think should happen.

Considering I don't like 1970's American muscle cars I thought it was an absolute blast. :)

All this talk of Hollywood liberals and passing laws to prevent the destruction of old cars makes you all seem rather silly, you know?

I agree with you guys. For an Aussie like me its painful to see such unique vehicles such as these get the chop. I love all American cars. Just out of curiosity, are they quite respected over there or does it really depend on condition? Over here I see a lot of nice old Holdens and Fords that people have no love for, and abuse the shit out of them.

It depends more on the person than the car condition.
Some of us really care about automotive history and design and want to see as many perserved as possible.
Others could not care less.

Hollywood seems to feel enough viewers enjoy seeing cars destroyed that they will keep doing it.
I get no sense any of the producers/directors out there have any feel for auto history or its preservation whatsoever.

It also made no sense because why would he destroy his own car?
