The rear emblem seems to read "Explorer." Notice how the third letter seems to be a 'p.' What does everyone else think? -- Last edit: 2008-08-23 05:55:06 |

The Explorer package was available on the Ranger back then. I've got to go to sleep too, it's already past Midnight where I'm sitting. Be sure to check all the stuff I've been saying about Chevrolet & GMC Suburbans. -- Last edit: 2008-08-23 06:54:50 |

It's not a 1977, it's 1978-79. A friend of mine has a 1978 F-150 Explorer, it has rectangular headlights just like this one and the same wheelcovers (which were originally found on early seventies Ford cars). My Father's '78 Bronco Ranger XLT also had this grille and rectangular headlights. Some 1978 models had round headlights too. All 1977 models had a different grille and round headlights. |

1977 Ford F-Series trucks had the same grilles as the 1976's and 1975 1/2's. The only difference was the location and font of the cowl insignias, which was the same as on the 1978's & 1979's. That makes this one either a 1978 or 1979. -- Last edit: 2009-02-16 15:09:40 |

It is a accurate. For 1978 the Explorer was a package on the Ranger trim level. For 1979 it was a package on the Custom trim level. They were released in separate brochures. Limited editions so it wasn't a full MY production. Chrome headlamp bezels were part of the package. There were 4 packages to choose from. A, B, C, & D if i recall properly.
