To my knowledge the German Army never used any Uranus. Smaller cranes were based on Jupiter, larger ones were supplied by FAUN. But other armies did. The Belgian and the Swiss army used the Magirus-Deutz Uranus 250 AL as a prime mover and the Danish Army the Magirus-Deutz Uranus 250D25AS as a crane (but a different one) and the Uranus 270D34AS as an artic prime mover. There was also a heavy recovery crane made by Magirus mainly for emergency services, but some were sold to the British, US, Belgian and Spanish Armies. I cannot say who was the first owner of this rather small crane and which engine was installed. |

This Uranus truck with crane was only used by the French Army. The crane is the old German type Bilstein K 6000 M which was used in large numbers by the German Wehrmacht in II. WW. |

Vehicle was new to the RAF and served in Germany. Year of Manufacture 1955 Reg PSL 711 Owner Chris Thomas Suffolk. Original engine was the V8 but that suffered a siezure and presently it has the 232 BHP V6 engine fitted. As section Leader for Diesel Heavy Haulage at GDSF I regularly book this vehicle in and can confirm the original user to have been the Royal Air Force, Germany. -- Last edit: 2009-12-30 21:44:01 |
