Made in Turkey. |

Why specifically Turkey? Transits actually are made in the Ford van plant Eastleigh, Southampton, UK. This is since the 1970s. This is in addition to them currently being built by Ford Genk Body & Assembly, Genk, Belgium and Ford Otosan Assembly - Kocaeli, Turkey. |

Indeed! I actually live near that factory and I once visited it on a school trip. |

I imagine pretty much all of the Transits used in the UK come from that Southampton factory. |

Is the production in Southampton still running? I've heard, that since a while the Transit, the MK IV and the MK III, too were only produced in Turkey. I 1989 I thought, that Volkswagen wants to start the assembling of the Transit (it was the time, when the Taro-productin was runing). We've visited the Transporter-factory in Hannover and I've seen several doors lying around, which were looking like Transit MK III-doors. But I was wrong - they belonged to the prototypes of the VW T 4 (which I've seen later on that factory-tour). -- Last edit: 2008-01-12 18:56:12 |

Yes it is. It's been there since 1971. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/england/hampshire/4691325.stm -- Last edit: 2008-01-12 18:56:32 |

Some cars are made in factories all over the world, they make Honda Civics at Swindon. This is why sometimes there may not be that much point in listing the country a car is actually built in. |

I worked on the Transit in the past (the VE6 project about 1987 I think). Ford Transit's were engineered in Dunton and Cologne, but I only ever visited Cologne. |
