It has to be one of the two... from anywhere between 1981 and 1987.

1981 up to 1988(yes there are a fiew 88's still this style and i know it as a fact, drive one regulary at work)i don't see a 4x4 hub sticking through the front wheel to make it a k-series so i would actually personally call it a c-30 chevy for whatever year you decide to badge it

No, they changed the cabs in 1981.

they didn't use the 3500 badge until the body change in the late 80's if i remember. for these style trucks they used the 2 diget numbers for the rating (10/20/30) and i still belive it to be a 2wd c-series, not a k-series 4x4, not even a hint of a transfer case or front drive shaft hanging below the frame

good call on chassis designation, I still believe its a 6x6, due to ride heighth in the front fender/ tire area, plus you dont drive a 2wd version of this truck in the soft sand, im sticking with K-35 Sierra, comments??

Comments? "6x6" is not the proper designation for any truck with only two axles. It is about the axles, not the number of tires. So it is either a "4x4" or 2wd, (Ford I believe started the "4x2" emblems in the '80s). Plymubishi has good points about the lack of front hub, t'fer case and front prop shaft!
Daytona Beach FL USA allows 2wd passenger cars due to the firm sand.
C or K? not enough evidence to say for sure. Good discussion.

i still stick with saying 2wd for the reasons i said above, unless it has some verry thick motor and tranny mounts and front driveshaft removed.

forgive me alluding to this as a 6x6, I referred to the soft sand because I see deep tire marks behind it. Im very familiar with Daytona Beach, Ive driven on it many times, its 40 miles from my home, but it packs so hard you can skateboard on it, when its open, when its closed, its so soft everybody gets stuck. :)

and it is still NOT a 3500 as stated before the 3500 badge wasn't used until the complete makeover of the full size gm trucks in the late 80's. 30 is the proper badge number on these style 1 ton dual rear wheel gm trucks. and i still stick to my theory on it being a 2wd

Since it is a 1981+ model, the proper name would actually be C-3500.
