If it's the car in the middle then it's definately a Ford Crown Victoria (unless you mean that black car?) -- Last edit: 2007-07-10 13:59:44 |

1993. NYC TAXI never purchased any 1992 model Crown Vics, and this one has a reflective strip on the trunk |

yeah, I thought i saw a reflective stripe too, but I wasn't sure. Didn't the authentic NYC Crown Victoria's have the front/rear bumpers painted gray? |

That was first introduced in 1995. Some movies take 1992 CV's and paint the bumpers gray. This is stock footage of an NYC intersection. -- Last edit: 2007-07-11 02:22:08 |

What was the reasoning for painting NYC taxi's bumpers grey? And why did they stop doing it in 2001/2002? And, how do you know they never bought any 1992 Crown Vics? |

Well, I have no idea how he knows whether NYC purchased any 1992's. He never did explain that. However, the reason is because the bumpers are painted at a separate facility than were the rest of the body is painted. Since at the time, Ford did not offer this yellow as a standard color, the cars were painted somewhere else. To avoid extra hassle, NYC would just order grey bumpers from Ford since it was the color that best combined with the yellow. It would have cost more money to also paint the bumpers separately. As for why it's not done anymore, I don't know. Maybe Ford offers the yellow now, maybe everything is now painted together, or maybe NYC paints the bumpers yellow now too. |

Found some footage on youtube of NYC on December 31st 1992 during the new year celebrations and saw what looks like a 1992 Ford CV taxi emerging from W49th street. Thought that it may be of interest, Perhaps only a small few of the 1992 CV Models were used at this time. The Cab appears for three seconds in the video from 14:15 to 14:18. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXxuY4SNl_A -- Last edit: 2017-04-13 02:33:32 |

BTW, NYC ordered Crown Vics every year from 1992 to the end of US production. |

Yes that is true, was just intrigued to see a 1992 model CV, as it was stated above by Snookie that "NYC Taxi never purchased any 1992 model CV's" (The model before the more common 1993 CV) the 1993 CV having introduced the front Grille and reflective strip on the trunk, launched in late 1992. |
