Yes. It was available on the Oldsombile Toronado, and the Buick Reatta from 1988-1989 and had many functions. From controlling the car's cabin temperature, to engine diagnostics. This is a quote from Wikipedia: "The Toronado Troféo could be ordered with the Visual Information Center—a dash mounted touch-screen CRT that controlled the vehicle's thermostat and radio, and also supplied advanced instrumentation such as a trip computer. The VIC could also serve as the interface to an in-car hands-free cell phone." And here is a picture of the screen on the right side of the dash: http://www.murrayco.com/Car_Collection/buick_reatta_89_lg4.jpg |

Didn’t this car "talk" when you opened anyone of the doors? |

I think only the Chrysler E-Class did that... ![]() |

I only asked because I remember seeing this car in a TV-Series where it was in a chase and the driver's door gets torn off. The car kept saying "close door" or something along those lines. -- Last edit: 2008-08-10 03:10:25 |

Oh, ok so it was a movie a remember seeing it in. I thought it was a TV-Series. Guess that’s why I never found it on the site. But did the car’s computer really talk to let you know when the doors were open, or was that a fake feature the filmmakers added ??? |

From wiki on the 1986-92 Toronado "Inside, a new digital instrument panel and optional voice alert system were employed..." |
