Model orgin England, not Germany? I think it schould be Germany! It's LHD model, in my opinion it's a german car! |

Escort Mk1 is not really German in any significant way. It was supposed to be the first joint car project from the newly formed Ford Europe, with Ford UK and Ford Germany as joint partners, but Ford Germany had a sulk and did not play, so all design and development was done by Ford UK. Initial production was all in UK at Halewood, until LHD for Europe started at Genk in Sept 68, with no German production until 1970 when Saarlouis opened. (It was a similar story for the Transit Mk1 - supposedly a joint UK-Germany project, but Germany did not play, so it was all UK-led, with a further twist that as far as I know, Germany never built any Transits, whether Mk1 or later generations). |
