With this car Fangio and Moss were winning the '55 24 Hours of Le Mans when the horrific accident happened that killed 1 driver (Pierre Levegh in another 300 SLR)and over 80 spectators. This accident retired Mercedes-Benz from competition for almost 20 years. Sir Stirling Moss with an identical car(Nº 722)won the Mille Miglia that very same year. http://www.stirlingmoss.com/laguna2005.htm |
