Yes,I think it was an aftermarket item,they also had these for Jeeps.I had a neighbor years ago who had a Scout with one of these(half cab)and a factory full top as well,he used to swap the two roofs out with each other..or he just ran without it in summer!!! |

IH offered the half cab pickup, the full cab, and a sport cab that had a slanted "fastback" look. Not many of the sport cabs sold. Some models had a removable bolt-in buckhead just behind the seats for use with the half cab, then remove the bulkhead for the full cab. The one pictured has had the suspension modified with the springs relocated above the axles...a "spring-over". |

This was my 61 Scout 80 (VIN indicated 3 mths into production of the Scout line - one of the first!!) when i rented it to 20th Cen/Fox. Forest wanted to buy it but didnt want ot pay my asking price. Years later after i sold it and moved to Hollywood CA i was at a mechanics shop admiring a 80 sitting out front. The mechanic came over and started yapping. he said "this one belongs to Forrest Whitaker." What are the chances. My mom nicknamed it "El Burro". I really loved it. It was an expensive toy however. Yes it was the same vehicle and yes it had a removable half top. Lucky to have found one as I prefer this over the full top.
