car nerd ◊ 2007-02-22 02:07	Actually you're both correct. Most of the production companies will rent these vehicles form a 3rd-party. This 3rd-party will have purchased, through government auction, retired police cruisers. When a production calls for crashes, production companies will purchase any car that looks right.

I am aware of that, but that doesn't mean that this is really an ex-LAPD car. The other LTD's in the movie were not real LAPD cruisers but just movie cars. I could tell because they had spotlights and one even had decklights. People need to understand that the good majority of police cars in movies were made by the prop department. The only car in this movie I know for sure was authentic was the slicktop CHP diplomat that I identified as a 1985. Like I said, it's better to put the approximate years to be safe and not just assume.
