A 1925 Rolls Royce Twenty convertible. Being a Twenty and having a right hand drive it is a car shipped over to the United States from the UK Derby factory rather than a Springfield product ( Springfield only produced Ghosts till 1926 and later Phantom I's)).Curiously , it was not unusual for American Customers to prefer the genuine UK cars.It is also possible that this was one of Chaplin's personal cars so if anyone knows more details... |

Sorry Pilou, but Springfield started in 1921, and only built RHD Silver Ghost until the end of 1924. This is one of such, adorned with a Piccadilly Roadster body by Rolls Royce Custom Coach Works, who actually farmed the job out to many of the local coachbuilders. Many of the Silver Ghosts from Springfield had horizontal shutters as shown. |

This is a US built Springfield Ghost - the body style is American (Brewster) and the headlights are the giveaway - British ghosts did not have these drum headlights. I have a car exactly like this in my garage. |
