Seeing as how this is actual footage, this should be verifiable somewhere. If wickey is right, this is either a '62 or '63. |

This is what is on Wikipedia about the X-100: "The John F. Kennedy limousine was a 1961 Lincoln Continental convertible, also with a Plexiglas bubble top in the event of inclement weather. The vehicle was custom built by Hess and Eisenhart of Cincinnati, and was known as the X-100. Kennedy chose to have the car refitted with a 1962 grille for aesthetic reasons." |

This was archival footage of the motorcade that carried President John F Kennedy and his wife, First Lady Jacquline Kennedy taken at Dealey Plaza in Dallas, Texas on the 22nd November 1963 just moments before he was shot. In the episode of the documentary series, 10 Mistakes that covered JFK's assassination, the limousine was listed as Mistake No. 8 on the basis of the modifications that the limousine had and the fact it was a convertible. These included: Retractable running boards - Located on the undersides of the vehicle for the Secret Service agents to stand on. Steps - Located below the rear doors of the vehicle for the agents to step on. Removable Tops - Used on the basis of the weather conditions and came with the options of a bubbletop or a proper roof. Hydraulic seat - Located in the rear of the vehicle to allow JFK to have a view of the public. The same episode had also revealed that the night before Kennedy's visit to Dallas on the 21st November 1963, six Secret Service agents assigned to JFK's protection detail had flown out to Dallas ahead of Kennedy's team and spent the night and into the early hours of the 22nd November, getting drunk. -- Last edit: 2025-03-15 03:35:04 |
