Was a 1962 Caddy Fleetwood disguised as a(fake)1957 GAZ Tchaika(so was the writing in Cyrillics on bonnet edge,means seagull in Russian idiom)M-13;the director had done a bit of confusion,'cause the sole Russian-made car of the period that could be lookalike at contemporary Caddies was the 1963 ZIL 111-G(but its production was started 2 years after set up Berlin wall,and willbe an anachronism),while that 1962 Caddy used for the movie no recalls in none way the car that it "wannabe"(Tchaika M-13 lookalikes more '50S Packards,therefore was better to use a Packard and disguise it as a Tchaika)...Another blooper unmasked! |

And why not use a real Chaika? You might expect to see old American cars passed off as old Soviet limousines in films made before 1990, but these days there's no excuse. .gif ":)") |

This is definately not a 1962 Cadillac, it's a 1963! Panoramic windscreen indicates series 75. |

junkman was right:I've verified on a specific book of 1940-1965 US-cars and,yes,is 1963 M.Y.,not 1962(I had said 1962,'cause have confused it with the 1962 model,like that used by my sister for its wedding day--that had a single line grille,not the double-decked grille of 1963 model) |

It's definitely not a "Series 75" as shown in the title blurb. The "75" has a smaller rear window area. So, in the absence of a side view, it's just a "1963 Cadillac". |

To clear up the mess: It was a 1963 Cadillac Fleetwood Sixty Special, painted in black with a black vinyl roof and black leather throughout. As I was working in the company that loaned the car for production, I drove it a couple of times. It was disguised to play the role of a Chaika, indeed. The reason for using a Cadillac instead of a real Chaika is simple: In another scene of that movie you see the "Chaika" being torn apart by an explosion. Don´t worry, they didn´t do what you´re expecting... To unmask another blooper: The exploded car wasn´t a Chaika either, just as it wasn´t the 1963 Fleetwood Sixty Special shown here. Instead they showed a wrecked 1961 or 1962 (don´t recall the correct model year right now) Cadillac Sedan Series 62, which had been rotting in our backyard for years. As finding a defunct Chaika to tear apart seemed rather impossible, they decided to use the Cadillacs instead. All that info is confirmed, as I know both cars "in person" as well as the 1984 Cadillac Eldorado Biarritz used in the same movie. .gif ";)") -- Last edit: 2024-09-08 19:35:03 |

I always forgot to provide the additional pictures. But here they are: This is the car that was used for the movie, playing the Chaika (note the strange aftermarket mirror on the right fender).
