pas plutôt 1914/1924 que 1940?
Même genre que /vehicles_make-Rolls-Royce_model-40%252F50+h.p.+Armoured+Car.html je suppose ?

These Silver Ghost chassis were at first made available to the Army by taking the body of cars donated by their owners in 1914. When they proved succesfull Rolls Royce supplied the War Office numerous chassis with WO added to the chassis numbers. ALthough many of these were reconverted to private use after the war, their success was such that they remained in service until well in to the Secon World War, though not in the front movements, as they were reliable, but old fashioned and slow.

Antp:

This is a mock-up body which was just made for the film. They used chassis #82EM which received a new replica body after the film.

Far be it for me to raise an issue with so prominent an authority as ‘Park-Ward’ (2007-04-13 09:11) however…..
1924 front braked, long chassis, Silver Ghost #82EM (on test 02.01.1924) was indeed used as an Armoured Car replica for this film but also used was chassis #68RM a short chassis of 26.04.1924. Virtually indistinguishable the only visual difference is the variation of ‘bolt heads’ on the steel panels of the heavy bodies. (These were in fact nuts welded on to the panels which were welded each to each !) The definition on the ‘Lowell Thomas at Aquaba’ still, 053/043.jpg is insufficient to identify with any accuracy which chassis this is. ( I cannot remember which I used on this day, sorry folks!)

68RM and 82EM can be seen together in ‘Wickey’ 2006-09-13 01:02, http://img115.imageshack.us/my.php?image=snapshot20060912233307jc6.jpg 82EM further from camera. Notice shadow on 68RM turret…carefully placed camel !

Also see 68RM below with Anthony Quayle in the turret. Leaning on spare wheel is Eddie Fowlie who was the Property Master. Notice however all are paying attention to “She who must be obeyed” Barbara Cole the ‘Continuity Girl’. Chairs are scarce as hens’ teeth on location but Barbara warrants not only chair but desk, typewriter and sunshade brolly. Particularly powerful person !
“Nothing in the Movies is as it seems” notice my trolley jack under rear o/s axle. This to level up the shot !

Also in picture is the Austin Gypsy(Gipsy)dedicated camera equipment car. One of many on the LofA set, donated by manufacturers but woefully unreliable. Bert Holliday was sent out from England with full equipment to keep them on the road. I borrowed Bert on many occasions to help with RR driving, here taking time off on the bonnet of 82EM.

Ribefo is absolutely correct. He actually wrote to me about this car some years ago but the info was not properly recorded... Shame on me !

Very interesting to see these photographs of 82EM. I bought this actual car about a month ago knowing it had a replica Barker body, but had no idea it had had such an unusual history! I'd upload an image of it if I knew how to!!

There are only a handful of Ghosts in Scotland, but coincidentally chassis number 68RM is also in Scotland and garaged in the next village.. both were rebodied by Jarvis after filming.
