It's a newer Trans Am- either '86 or '87, You can tell because it has the aero wing which was used beginning in '86. Without a back view it's hard to distinguish the 2 years. '86 models had the third brake light on top of the rear window. '87 had them under the middle of the aero wing. Since the movie is © 1986- I'd bet it's an '86 T/A. Knghtmat- So you know late 80's firebirds could be had with ground f/x so you can't judge by ground f/x alone. (They came with the early T/A spoiler, while the T/A had the Aero wing and 15x7" rims) |

Could still be a 1985 model. When I bought my '85 Trans Am new in November of 1984 there was another one on the lot with the aero wing. Looking back, I should have gotten that one since it was a 5 speed model with the H.O. engine (I bought a more powerful TPI model sadly equipped with the auto). |

It looks like an 86 because of that black Aero wing very common on those models of that year. |

I believe it is definitely a 1986, as it has the 3rd brake light visible above center top hatch. After it nearly runs down Jack and Wang, it speeds away and you can there is no CHMSL in the middle under the spoiler, connecting the spoiler to the hatch itself. The CHMSL was moved from the top of the hatch and put under the center spoiler for the 1987 model year, and the 1985 had no CHMSL, so it's gotta be a 1986. There's just a glint of reflection barely visible off the CHMSL at the top of the hatch in this shot (it's a bit dark)....![]() These next two scenes are from the alternate ending as seen on the Special Edition DVD. Here's the first shot, when Jack Burton rams the T/A with the Pork Chop Express, again you can just barely make out the high mounted third brake light... ![]() ...and it's again just visible when the Trans Am is falling off the dock. Note the fact this T/A has no 'hood bird', which came back as a full hood decal in 1985 I believe, and was very popular on '85's and '86's. Interesting that they popped the hood open, for whatever reason, before the stunt took the car in the drink... ![]() -- Last edit: 2016-05-03 10:06:39 |
