that car was rigged to over heat. 190e's don't over heat like that. -- Last edit: 2007-02-18 21:16:01 |

from my car knowledge Mercedes Benz made THE most RELIABLE CARS IN THE WORLD in the 80's. that's just 5 cent dissing mercedes. |

The most reliable Mercedes in the 1980es was the W123 still produced in the early eighties. The later models of the eighties (W201, etc) weren't as bad as the ones of the 90s, but couldn't keep up in quality with the W123 and the earlier models. |

Sorry, but I cannot totally agree. Sure, the technic of the W123 was good - but from it predecessors W114, W110 and W120 even more. All of these model-ranges had big rust-problems. The W201 is much better with that, so it's the reason, why it has the reputation today as one of the most reliable youngtimer-cars, together with the Golf II, the Volvo 740 and the 1986+ Audi 80. The W124 had big quality-problems after its release. I remember, that there was a demonstration-convoi of angry taxi-drivers to the Mercedes headquarter in Stuttgart back then. I never liked the W201, even from it's start not (ugly style, much too small, especially inside and idiotic trunk-space). But the owners and fans are still happy with it. |

I think one of the toughest and most practical Mercedes of all times was the /8 (W114/W115). It did well as everyday car and was very formidable in rallye-driving. I always thought it had a very dull bodywork, and I think it has in comparison with my alltime favourite, the fintail (W110/W111/W112), but it is still great compared to any car of today. I agree, that the W201 wasn't probably a bad car at all, but I loathe it for it's styling as much as the W124. (Fans might disagree.) Even though, there are much uglier cars on the road since the 1990ies. But yet, no match for the W123, W116 and W107 for me. (I once recall when I saw a W201 driver who saw my W123 Ratrod and told me, that this was a great car and that he never should have sold his old W123 and buy this "ghurkin" (Gurke, german expression for bad car) instead.) -- Last edit: 2010-08-13 13:39:37 |

If I think closer, I must say, that there are a plenty of more German terms for a bad or rotten car, also some in only local use. But not as many like for being drunk or having sex. ![]() btw.: Is it correct, what I've read a time ago, that there are more than 2000 English terms for being drunk? ![]() |

I renember a quite stupid ad from some car dealers who tried to sell their new junk that was referring to the term "Möhre" (carrot). Some fellows were walking around and were putting plasticbags with a carrot and a letter to each older car they did recognize as that. |

Feel free to take a Möhre/Gurke from me: Link to "forum.imcdb.org" ...if we will be allowed to sell it hopefully soon. Not all Mercedes 300 are legends... |

I wouldn't drive a W124 ore anything newer then that even if it would be a new one... but many people would be shocked to the state of the cars i am driving (due to no money). But at least I manage to kept them alive for many years. I even painted my W123 in ratlook colors so that it matches with the natural colors by now... my girlfriend said it looks like it has been pulled out of the river after some years. But it turns heads everywhere, for sure! |

I should scan paper-photos from my own automobile history. For one summer, 1994, I had a K 70, affectionately coloured s this well-known classic: /vehicle_2078-Dodge-Monaco-1974.html Absolutely everyone had looked to it. And every single cop and border-control-officer has controlled me. ![]() |
