You mean that it is a replica, or that such make/model did not exist for real?

yes. this car was made from several cars; body from Ford Model A, modern Chevy engine etc. So I think it should be moved to "Made for Movie" category

OK, let's list it as "Made for Movie Porter" then ;)

Is there knowledge that exists of the builder's name? George Barris, for example?

One web site lists Barris Custom Industries.

Incidentally, there really was a Porter, but it was only built from 1919 to 1922 in Bridgeport, Connecticut and only a total of 36 were constructed.
(And it looked nothing like the pictured car!)

My Mother The Car's "1928 Porter" is really a 1925 Model T Touring. It was originally owned and made into a hot rod by Norm Grabowski (builder of the Kookie T in 77 Sunset Strip) It appeared in this form in "Sex Kittens Go To College" starring Mamie Van Doren, and also appeared at that time on the cover of Hot Rod Magazine (August 1960). After it was purchased by the studio, Barris customized it further into a "1925 Porter". AMT models followed suit by making a kit based incorrectly from their existing 1927 Model T Touring kit.

Norm Grabowki's original version of the car also appeared on the cover of the August 1961 issue of Hot Rod Magazine. George Barris added the top, wire wheels and the 'Porter' hood and radiator grille.

Great information.

I've read where there was two cars...so did Barris make the second for the series?
I understand one is in a Tenessee "star car" museum, the other in Western Canada.
Anyone else know more?

I recently found this site when doing a search for "My Mother the Car". I happen to know the owner of the no.1, or "hero car. his name is Dave Bodnar, and lives in Edmonton, Alberta.

George Barris only built the no.2, "stunt car" which had the hidden driver compartment in the back seat.

I seen this car at the Hollywood Star Cars Museum at Gatlinburg, TN. Back in 2001

The car in the Gatlinburg museum was the Barris stunt car. It was sold to a private collector.
