It looks like a white Renault 16 behind, a rare site on UK roads even in 1987.

That's interesting. I don't think I've ever seen a C reg Transit of this generation. I've definitely seen D, but didn't know there were C reg ones. It looks very modern for then, a huge step forward from the previous Transit.

I admit I was surprised too, but it seems the Mk.III was available from January 1986. I knew - all too well - that there were D-reg. ones: I lived with one for 270k miles.

Essex County Council registration I think so probably supplied direct by Ford for filming purposes.

The white Renault behind is a 16 indeed, 16TX 1974-1980 more precisely.

I saw a C-reg one the other day. Still going strong, ladders on top, builders three abreast in the cab, copy of The Sun on the dashboard.

There was an overlap of Transits, as some late Mk2s were registered on a D plate, often fleet purchases like minibuses that took time to be delivered.
