Pre '42 manufacture by the narrow mantlet on the 75mm. Which narrows it to an M4 along with the welded hull. It is also still has the original 75mm. Several in US service recieved an upgrade with the 76mm gun. Since the gun is straight to the end, that tells me it's the original 75.

They are M4A3E4 Shermans, which were standard M4A3s which were upgunned after the war with 76mm guns, hence the fact they look longer than 75mm guns. They were all serving Yugoslav tanks when the film was produced.

Is "Alco" still correct as manufacturer then?

It is impossible to tell without being able to see the foundry marks or dataplates, there were loads of different compnies producing Shermans during the war. Apparently most of the remanufacturing to accomodate the 76mm gun was undertaken by Rock Island Arsenal and Bowen-McLaughlin-York Co between them.

Alco didn't produce A3 variant. Most A3s were made by Chrysler. By the way, these tanks seem to have standard 75 mm guns (in original mantlets!), only artificially lengthened ;)

Although most A3s were made by Chrysler, this variant was made by Fisher (M4A3(75)W) (provided, it is A3).

Year should be 1944 (wet stowage variant)

The Guns on the Shermans are not lengthened 75mm, ones but 76mm ones, the older style turrets and mantlets were retained in the conversion to M4A3E4 standard. Here is more info on the Yugoslav tanks used for the film.....

Oddjob claims to have visually modified the guns to look larger than they really were.

The 76mm is definitely a post-war mod. All 76 Shermans that actually saw combat in WW2 had this turret. Link to "www.the-blueprints.com"

There was a prototype in 1942 of mounting a 76 in a Small-turret sherman....technically it worked, but was deemed far too cramped. Good enough for export though!

I believe he said it was a 76, modified to look like a 90
