My guess is that is a 1990 or 1991 model. |

Its a 1989 Ford Tempo AWD, the one in the picture posted by antp is a 1992 Ford Tempo GL, http://www.cee.mtu.edu/~detobias/tempo_1.JPG <89 Tempo AWD with Sport Appearance Package, the one in Basic Instinct is without the Sport Appearance Package. Regular AWD Tempo's had a grey chrome side molding along the side on the doors |

You know, AWD Tempos are rare. Plus they have a higher ride height which the first car doesn't have. It has to be a gL. |

I haven't seen one real Tempo that isn't an AWD! I live in Alaska, so it is rare to seen anything but Suburbans, Excursions and Yukons. But, I drive a 89 Tempo AWD with the same rims as the one in Basic Instinct and it is grey, also, AWD models were the same height as all other Tempo models. Ford made it clear, according to tempotopaz.com, that AWD wasn NOT for off roading, but for better handling in rough weather and thus they did not need height adjustments. But, my AWD Tempo is SUPER low to the ground. the exhaust tip is barely a foot off the ground! |

They may be more common in Alaska because of the snow, but they aren't all that common in the lower 48 (especially California). -- Last edit: 2006-04-17 07:54:31 |

Well, this one still seems like an AWD model. AWD models had chrome strips along the side, like the one in the picture. Canada, Montana, Idaho, Maine, Vermont, North Dakota, Michigan and Minnasota can have just as bad weather as Alaska, in fact, when me and my family were traveling from Alaska to Connecticut in 2003, we had the worst storm I have ever been through in South Dakota! It was so bad, it blew cars off the road! |

So? Non-AWD models had chrome trim too. AWD Tempos aren't common. |

Do you have any proof or pictures? Because I have only seen the large chrome strips along the lower sides of Tempo's with the "Tempo AWD" badging on AWD model Tempo's. |

No, I'm talking about a 3 inch wide strip of Chrome running at the VERY bottom of the car. The GL Tempo's in the pictures submitted by had chrome lines a few inches above the bottom. |

I don't know what you're talking about. Do you have an example? |

I will put up a picture of my 1989 Ford Tempo AWD sedan when my scaner works, but it might be a GL, because they do seem rare on the computer... And in Alaska, your are practically required to have AWD, so it might be a GL. |

I think this one is in GL trim form from the first thumbnail provided by antp ![]() |
