DT is right. Dodge didn't make the Duster. This model was made after 1973.

What's the top speed of a 1973 Plymouth Duster?

"What's the top speed of a 1973 Plymouth Duster?"

Thats to vague of a question. Duster's came with a few different configurations from slant 6's, 318's 360's and potent 340's. Some folks have even stuffed in big blocks, though the Duster never came from the factory with a big block.

Dusters had some pretty hot engine options when they were released, but '73s weren't really that fast. Then again, this one is pretty obviously hot-rodded.

1958 Plymouth in background. Either Belvedere or Fury.

73 Duster 340, as was stated earlier.
Top speed 130mph.

I think that might be a Dodge Demon.

This is a 1973 model so, by that time, Dodge changed the model name from Demon to Dart.

It's kind of funny. The film takes place in 1976 and the car is at the earliest a 1973 (could be a 1974 to 76 as well since they were all pretty much the same) which means it's pretty beat to s**t for a 3 year old car. Heheh.

It's not too hard to believe when you consider the knucklehead who was driving it. :D

I think they call these wheels "slots", but I have no idea on the manufacturer.

These slotted mags were really popular in the 1970s, and a lot of manufacturers produced them.

One of the most popular was Anson, which these might well be. Halibrands were also popular, but I don't think these wheels are Halibrands....the style isn't quite right.

Acording to a web site I found its a '72 Duster with Cragar SS wheels (I don't think so!)

If it's a 1972 model it's grill and bumper have been replaced with a 1973 model.

According to the IMDB trivia they claim it's a 1972 Plymouth Duster but due to the bumpers it appears to be a 1973 or later Plymouth Duster

They look like aluminum slots.

Whats the hood scoop

The hood scoops and the wing were options on the "Duster Twister" since '71, so I'd say it's a Twister.

It's defiantly a 73-74 duster . Only those 2 years had the rectangular taillights and the grill that had the Plymouth lettering on top . In 75-77 they had a Plymouth emblem on the grill and also had front and rear impact bumpers . I agree that thing looks rough for a 2 to 3 year old car

Perfect car for the character. One of the most memorable and iconic vehicles of the film, it was featured on the crew T-shirt. One assumes it is still primer because he didn't finish it in time during shop class, and it needed extensive body work because of his rage issues. The Duster has it's charms but was a quirky and annoying car, like Ben's character. It's worth noting that after his character is humiliated by the vengeful freshman squad, he still goes home, cleans up and makes it out to the Moontower.

god, the cars in this movie PERFECTLY sums up the Street Freak culture of the mid 70s
