This is not an AMC. It's a Argentinean Dodge. Based on the American Dart. It was also briefly assembled in Spain. Usually "slant six" powered. |

It is still called Dodge Dart? |

Seeing that the movie was filmed in England largely, I'd say it is the Spanish built Dodge 3700 GT. |

What is a spanish Dodge Barreiros doing at Batman? |

Movie was made in UK, and I guess that it was easier to find a Spanish Dodge than a US Dodge? |
◊ 2007-12-04 19:52 |
why isn't it listed as a Dodge Barreiros? |

Are there any visible differences between Spanish and US Dodge. If no it is not so obvious that the car is from Spain (were they exported?). -- Last edit: 2007-12-04 20:03:15 |

Hi all, Just thought i would introduce myself. I am the owner of the two Dodge 3700GT cars that were used as the Jokers cars in the 1989 Film Batman. I will post my full story on how i got involved in the Batman movie and ended up driving many of the action cars you see in these images. I have been looking through some old photos and found a photo of me on set with both of my cars. (will upload soon) More film history and facts on the action cars and stunts later. Hi again all, I worked on the Pinwood lot Batman movie 1988/9 Gotham city set. With my two identical Dodge 3700GT "Jokers cars" I aquired the cars in Alicante Spain. My brother and I then drove them 1300 miles aross europe to England. They were great cars and the intent was to sell the cars after we had used them in the film. But one of the cars was badly damaged in a stunt. I still have the other in my lock up. Plus a few other cars. More updates on the other cars and vehicles I drove in the film coming up. http://clubdodgedespana.es/foro/index.php Hi: You can check out the Spanish Dodge web, where you´ll can find the 3700GT model, the one appears in the movie. I have one, and it was made in Spain between 1971 and 1977. The web is in Spanish, but you can find some fotos. Any other information about the car, I´ll be able to answer it. |

I'll never forget the Dodge 3700GT. That's what this car is - a Dart derivative that stands as its own model and not exactly a Dodge Dart. These cars were all over Madrid when I was a fresh-out-of-college bum in Europe in 1974. Built in Spain by Barreiros and based upon the Argentinian version of the US Dart, "3700" is the approximate metric equivalent of the 225 cubic-inch displacement of Chrysler's Slant Six. The "3700GT" was the sportier and better selling version and was quite luxurious by local standards of the day. Sadly, my sales brochure disappeared at least 20 years ago, but I remember much of it and these cars were more luxuriously appointed than US Darts, My recollection is genuine leather and wood inside, with four-on-the-floor, the shifter poking up through a console. I believe the dash featured gauges instead of idiot lights. The round wheel openings, rally wheels and red-and-amber taillights and turn signals fanning out in the rear all looked pretty good to me and I think if this car had been sold in the States I'd have bought one. While the Slant Six may have been considered a big gas hog by Euro standards, it was also appreciated in certain European quarters as the reliable unit it was. That has to be the explanation for all the Plymouth Valiant and Dodge Dart taxis running around Amsterdam when I was there in '74. Downtime is more costly than so-so fuel economy, after all, and these things rarely broke. -- Last edit: 2022-11-26 01:44:32 |
