Hello, I am new to the forum, and I fell in deep love with the E-Type (XKE) immediately when I saw The Avengers (1998). I love the blue colour, and I love the sophisticated, graceful shape of the roofline. It's truly one classy automobile. I also love the somewhat wide whitewall tires they have on the tires.......it accents the car in my opinion. My goal is to one day own this car very soon!! Does anyone know exactly what year the car is in this movie? I think it is a 1970 2+2 Coupe Series II. I could be wrong, and it might be a 1969. I've been trying to find out the exact model year of this particular car on the movie, but to no avail. If anyone has an idea, please feel free to let me know. :-) |

I don't think it's a 2+2 because of the size of the doors, they are too small. Moreover the car is too "short" and not tall enough. But I could be wrong |

Clearly a "normal coupé". "2 + 2" was taller and its windows were much bigger, especially the front one, which was longer. And, as XJ12C says, doors are too small. |

It's a 1970 S2 4.2. I should know, my dad owns the car! I restored it in 2001 after we bought it from a dealer in Nuneaton (England). It came as a basket case and seriously rusty. It seemed like it had been very quickly and very badly restored for use in the film (the filler was over 2 inches thick in places!). I fully restored it and its now being used as a weekend run around in Shropshire. The colour of it is now a slightly darker blue, returning it to the car's original colour. The car came with some of the special effects paraphenalia: a fake aluminium door, fake roof skins with the remnants of squibs imbedded, a full roll cage obviously installed for safety during stunt scenes, and even empty 9mm machine gun cartridges in the boot! The car was not as completely destroyed as it would seem in the film. |

Hi there, I am collecting information about the 1998 Avengers film. Yes, it was a disaster - but one made by the studio when they butchered the movie (would it have been better or worse, who knows?). Would you have any photos of the car during / after is restoration you can share? The fake door would imply it was used during a missing section of the 'bee' action sequence. Could the attached be a photo be you fathers car? ![]() Four Jaguars were purchased for the film. ''One, designated the number one stunt car, had a roll-cage built into it, a three gallon capacity, foam-filled with a safety tank added''. Probably your fathers! |
