This one in particular has a run-in (literally) with Number Five on a bridge.

It seems to have some sort of strange padding installed in the interior, and I'm almost certain that isn't the footwell of a real Ferret, although that doesn't surprise me as I have no idea how you'd get a camera down there, especially in the 80's.

Seaforth72 wrote Both Ferrets shown in the photo from SHORT CIRCUIT are 1954 ex-Canadian Army examples.

SECURIIY 104 on the left is hull number 301.B.2.4 (= 301st hull made, B = Build 2 = month i.e. February and 4 = 1954) Canadian Army Registration number 54-82516. UNEF number not known. Unused British number was 35 BA 75 Last known owner Mr. Biondi in North Carolina, USA

SECURITY 105 on the right is hull number 372.B.5.4 (372nd hull Built May 1954) Assigned British number 36 BA 46 but that number was never used. Presently owned by "taco bell" who posted above. Georgia, USA It did serve in the Sinai Desert of Egypt from 1957 onwards with United Nations Emergency Force (the first UNEF). Sadly the UNEF number is not known.

The Ferret numbered UNEF1215 was the previous Ferret on the list of CFR numbers i.e. Hull # 369 (not confimred) 54-82585 assigned British number 36 BA 46 which also served in Cypru with UNFICYP.

The confusion arises as the vehicles were sent to to the Sinai Desert in their original green paint and Canadian Army markings, including the Canadian Army Registration number e.g. 54-82586. Then they were at some point painted white and assigned United Nations registration numbers as they wanted to show that they were neutral peacekeepers. For a little while, both CAR and UNEF numbers were displayed but only a few photos show this. Sadly as of 2020-04-29, although a list of Canadian Ferrets in the Sinai Desert was found, no lists cross referencing the CAR to UNEF numbers has been found. I have recorded those numbers where I can find photos showing both. As well, some vehicles appear to have been added or withdrawn over the few years that they were there.

Just because they were peacekeepers does not mean that they were safe. One Ferret set of a land mine (younger soldiers now call these IEDs thought there was nothing "improvised" bout them). As well UN troops were shot at by various parties during their peacekeeping missions and some were killed.
The above information is correct to the best of my knowledge but subject to change. Owners of Ferrets have been generous in sharing information and I need to update my web pages accordingly.
Canadian Army had 124 Ferret Scout Cars. For more information please see my web pages starting with https://captainstevens.com/military/mv/ferret-scout-car/
