What I received by e-mail :
Quote
In 1971 there was a film "Powderkeg" (made for American television but shown elsewhere in theaters).
The film starred Rod taylor as a soldier of fortune in the American Southwest circa 1914. His car was a 1914 Stutz Bearcat (a popular sports and racing car made in Indianapolis, Indiana). The car was sourced from a Hollywood movie car rental agency. It is now in a private collection in California.
This film was such a hit that it was decided to make a weekly series for television, named "Bearcats!". The producers felt that the amount of use necessary for a television series would be too much for the Stutz...plus they wanted to have a spare vehicle...so they contracted with Hollywood custom car builder George Barris (maker of the TV Batmobile and Munster's Car) to build two replicas of 1914 Bearcats.
He produced two full size cars with metal bodies on hand built chassis. The cars had recent (1960's vintage) Ford engines and transmissions. I saw the series as a teenager and fell in love with vintage cars. After a 30 year search, I tracked down one of the Bearcat replicas made for the series and restored it.

So the car pictured above is one of the replicas. As the main picture is just a publicy, we could put it as thumbnail and replace it by one of the images coming from the series.

Stronghold & Antp....

I'm the owner of the car above. Thanks for posting the photos and history of the car! I'm just now putting the series on DVD but I don't have the capability of making still photos from them.
Itis a lot of fun to drive and own. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions.

For more history of the Bearcats! series, please see the history I wrote at: http://www.rodtaylorsite.com/bearcats.shtml

Just an update from my 2007 comment above...
The series has been released in DVD.
High quality too.
It's inexpensive and available from a certain online retailer (and others too).

Antp

Great shots, thank you.
Sadly after almost 25 years, I'm afraid I'm going to have to put it on the market soon when I downsize from my current home with multi-vehicle garage.
