In the commentary on the DVD of Part 1, Bob Gale said that the Packard ran a lot better than the De Lorean did most of the time, Whereas the De Lorean sometimes wouldn't start at all, The Packard started & ran every time, Bob Gale also said that everyone in the crew wanted that Packard because it just looked & ran great.

Note double chrome along lower side and beltline extentions, hallmarks of the 22nd series Custom 8.

The bad choice of clothes was noted by everyone in the movie, including Marty himself. He compared it to what Clint Eastwood would've worn.

I'm sure the Packard ran better than the DeLorean. I've had a 22nd series DeLuxe Eight sedan since the late 1980s, and it continues to be the most reliable car I own.
