An Impala as this one: /vehicle_6415-Chevrolet-Impala-1981.html |

1985 Chevy Impala. The car was rented from the L.A.P.D., and the car was brand new. |

Used by William L. Peterson's character as a getaway car in one of the 80's most memorable car chases. |

Aux USA, j'ai toujours entendu que ce modèle (le modèle Chevrolet base sans chrome ni rien dans le cadre d'un achat fleet)était surnommé "Plane Jane". Qu'est-ce-que cela veut dire? |
◊ 2006-06-20 22:09 |
It´s a play with words, Plain Jane, plain in the sense that it´s just ordinary and nothing special. Jane is, or at least used to be a common name. So the expression could also be used about women, she´s a plain Jane, meaning there´s nothing what so ever exciting about her. Same about these base model vehicles, not just Chevys, plain daily drivers that nobody really notice. |

antp, I just saw this chase today, and noticed some things. Can I start a gag list for this car? |

Sure, as long as these are comments related to this car it is allowed as it is not off-topic ![]() |

Okay. 1: When driving a Chevy Impala, always drive the wrong way up a freeway, you will, without a doubt, escape. 2: If Chevy cars could talk, the Malibus in this film would say: Why am I chasing my cousin?! 3: Never bet on a Mercury to chase a Chevy, cause we all know, Chevy always comes out the winner. (sometimes) 4: This car is indestructible. 5: This chase is a safety hazard, for no one wears seatbelts. 6: If cars could talk, the Mercury would say: Hot dang! That's one fast Chevy! 7: If driving a Chevy Impala, never drive into the L.A. flood basin while being chased, lord behold, more trouble is bound to ensue! 8: A Chevy Impala can outrun anything, whether it be freight trains, Dodges, Plymouths, Mercuries, Pontiacs, and whatever else can be thrown at it. 9: If the Chevy Impala could talk in that picture above, it'd say: I've been chased, shot at, jumped in front of a freight train, got my window shot, started beef with my cousins, drove the wrong way up the 710, and barely escaped with my chassis, hmm... not bad for an '85 Impala! |

Are you serious? The LAPD renting out a brand new car of theirs? Wow, that's the most unbelievable comment I've ever read...this wouldn't have even been new at the time! 1981-1985 On a serious note, I saw the movie recently, and noticed it had Chrysler M-body seats. ![]() Good chase scene it was in. -- Last edit: 2009-03-27 23:06:38 |

Correcting my own mistakes: 1981-1985 Impala 9C1 with Chrysler M-Body seats possibly for Camera Placement on interior shots |

I think there were used at least two cars. At the pictures below the Impala hits the Newport and then you can see that the bumper is a little scratched.![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() But this scratch is gone when Richard Chance climbs up on the car and starts to break the window. ![]() ![]() I have also found one really interesting video ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=blmyOo-KC4w ) which shows the two cars and how they filmed some of the scenes: ![]() ![]() ![]() -- Last edit: 2016-04-15 23:20:28 |

IMDb mentions the car being a 1985 Chevrolet Impala F41, having been rented from LAPD for the shoot. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0090180/trivia?ref_=tt_trv_trv |
◊ 2016-10-03 19:30 |
IMDb trivia info isn't always right, but as long as it still falls in the possible range I guess we can list it as 85 |
◊ 2016-11-28 15:04 |
Correct year range would be 1981+, as it'd be highly unlikely that the LAPD would allow them to trash two of their unmarked units for a film (I think they crashed one during filming), and the movie being a low budget indie, there's no way the studio would splurge on two brand new Chevy 9C1's |
◊ 2017-05-26 19:46 |
Well, everyone actually connected with the movie says it was a 1985 Chevrolet Impala, rented from the LAPD. If they were trashed, the movie company would have had to buy new ones. |

That could be, they look like there AHB-only bucket seats, so there would've been plenty of room between them, I'm curious how they mounted the seats. I also noticed that in some scenes on the freeway the front seats looked like '80s Olds Cutlass Supreme bucket seats -- Last edit: 2018-02-14 10:22:30 |

Funny, I was just watching the chase and said "I wonder what the exact year of that car is?" I take comfort that nobody else is 100% sure either. |

by the interior shots we can tell that's a 1981-1984 model cause there is wood trims on the door panels and dash (in 1985 model was replaced with bright aluminum type trim+dash) |
