US-spec,1986-1993,made in Finland(not in Sweden)by Valmet-Saab OY in Uusiikaupunkki's plant(prototype was shown at 1983 Frankfurt M.S.--styled by Bjorn Envall,Saab stylist,also author of 1967 Saab 99--but production was started later,in 1986) |

Why do you think it is US specific version? I cannot see any differences to European versions. /vehicle_53326-SAAB-900-Cabrio-1992.html The three possibilities for the 'Origin' flag are as follows: 1. Car was manufactured in the country where the company and brand name owner originates from. Standard and simple: the country's flag is used. 2. Car was manufactured in a factory directly controlled by the company and brand name owner. If this factory happens to be in a different country the flag of the controlling company is used, as the managers running the local factory have no influence on model politics or car specifications. They are just contract manufacturers. 3. Car was manufactured by a different company under licence using it's own or the licensers brand name. Then the country of the licensee is used. Examples: 1. Volkswagen Golf, produced in Wolfsburg, Germany: German flag. 2. Volkswagen Tuareg, produced in Bratislava, Slovakia: German flag. 3. Volkswagen Brasilia, produced in São Bernardo do Campo, Brazil: Brazilian flag. Other examples for (2) are: - Saab in Nystad - Volvo in Born or West Bromwich (by Jensen -- now its getting complicated) - Chrysler, BMW, Saab, Mercedes-Benz, and Jeep in Graz (by Magna Steyr) Other examples for (3) are: - DIXI, BMW, Rosengart: Austin Seven - Hino: Renault 4CV - Dacia: Renault 12 - Datsun: Austin A40 - GAZ: Ford AA - BMW, VELAM, Romi: Iso Isetta |

i have a friend that believes that this is one of the cars that he owns. i have not seen the movie, so i cannot even begin to verify whether he is correct or not. i am wondering if anyone might have some definite information. some things to look for, perhaps a VIN to check? |

actually, after looking again, i realize that i have seen this movie. a few more minutes of internet searching has begun the confirmation of the current owner, as posted here - http://www.saabnet.com/tsn/bb/booksandmovies/index.html?bID=897 |

![]() Belongs to Miles (Paul Giamatti) who uses it to take his friend Jack (Thomas Haden Church) on a stag weekend in California's wine country. It is used throughout the whole film so it sees plenty of action. Drinking and driving: ![]() Crosswording and driving: ![]() Making a getaway from white-trash husband: ![]() And finally after Stephanie (Sandra Oh) has smashed Jack's face in with a bike helmet, he tries to stage an accident so he'll a cover-story for his wife-to-be. Although he doesn't bother asking Miles first. ![]() Miles: WHAT THE FUCK!! Jack: I'll pay for it! Miles: Jesus Christ, Jack! Look at this! Jack: I don't know. Doesn't look like anyone was injured in this one. So he tries again, this time they get out of the car and Jack puts a brick on the accelerator pedal. -- Last edit: 2012-05-29 23:58:57 |

Highly unusual that the main car of a movie was alllowed to wear a real license plate. The main car almost always has a fake plate. |

I saw the movie again recently. To me, it looked like they used at least two SAAB convertibles in various scenes. |

The car is here now: eugenecleveland.com/sidewayssaab/ Originally silver, but painted in a faded red for the movie and scratched and dented. |
