The correct name of this modified car should be Opel Manta Extrem by Mattig. |

On the main pic in the background a Japanese Wagon |

a customized Opel Manta ![]() the really cool thing about such cars is that thiefs (who usally bring them to Russia) don't bother to steal them cos they stand out soo much and so are easy to find -- Last edit: 2012-04-26 20:59:17 |

i guessed you don't know much about 80s west Germany... |

Morons are equally distributed among time and space, so it does not matter where you go. You are very likely to find at least one in a location where you least expect it. |

well I like it to have more diversity on the roads with such customized cars than all having same black or silver Limos/ SUV like its mostly today |
◊ 2012-04-26 21:11 |
Why not combine both black SUVs and tasteless customization? http://www.here.org.uk/wp-content/uploads/2008/03/pinkrangerover.jpg |
◊ 2012-04-26 21:17 |
I don't think that's tastless customization on this Manta , tastless customization I usually think what's done in the US, with stupid XXL size rims with spinners, speakers as big as the car boot, impossible low ride height, neons under the cars or some stuppid inteior , now that's IMO tastless |

Here we have stupid widebody kit, tasteless color scheme... |
◊ 2012-04-26 21:27 |
the widebody kit had a function here, to put wider tires and lower the center of gravity so it can grip better in corners , so it's just not just for looks , and regarding colors i've seen far worse than that , maybe I would have changed the pink chade with soemthing else |

I guess you never heard of the DRM when this was standard practice in racing http://www.racingsportscars.com/photo/1982/Norisring-1982-06-27-004.jpg http://www.racingsportscars.com/photo/1983/Hockenheim-1983-04-10-019.jpg -- Last edit: 2012-04-26 21:35:30 |

Well, you know, there is a BIG difference between racecars and wannabe-racer's cars. After all, this is Manta. |
◊ 2012-04-26 21:41 |
absolutly , but Group 5 racecars were defently the inspiration for widebody kits on road cars . Larger tires gives you better grip no doubt about it, this widebody kits were required cos otherwise the car would be illegal for the road (body needs to cover the wheels) Group 5 race cars were actually road bodysheel with widebody kits so its easy to see why many companies offered such things for the road -- Last edit: 2012-04-26 21:41:56 |

OMG. Group 5,DTM, JTGC and NHRA had nothing to do with this Opel, which really needs more grip, when it hit the corner with exhilarating speed of 30 miles an hour.. |

The Jetta II in the background here http://pics.imcdb.org/0is15/opera2010040500083257.6968.jpg is worth to mention, too, as it a special edition. Maybe the 1987-only "Court" |

Well, mike962 is right. All this plastic-shit all around the car, was indeed very popular in the 80ies. Sure, today we say, it's tasteless (back then it was tasteless, too, but many people have liked that), but those were the 80ies. The usual taste in clothes wasn't better either, see: /vehicle_496334-Gilera-Citta.html (yes, a 2011-movie, but the style is pure 80ies). You are too young for that, but it's not unlikely, that here at IMCDb we have some members, who have looked like those in that years. Sure, you cannot expect an outing, because it's too embarassing for them, but in fact those fellows have existed. |
