Assuming this is the same Merc: Those close-up camera angles in this movie makes it difficult to cap a decent picture of a vehicle with a hefty role. -- Last edit: 2026-03-26 10:11:00 |

I'm not sure if I understand this correctly. - The first row of thumbs shows door windows without shiny bits on top. That points towards a [W 115] and thus a 200, 220 or 200 D, 220 D. - It also shows a car with quarter lights. That would argue towards a model year between 1968 and 1973. However, the main picture sows a speedometer going past 200 km/h, and, as far as I understand, no [W 115] could reach that sort of speed. Andrepa? |

Hi zodiac, I completely agree with you, as this also seems confusing to me, but perhaps it can be explained like this: 1. The speedometer is characteristic of a very specific 6-cylinder model in the W114 series, namely the 230.6. It reads 200 + 2 further marks without explicit 220, sometimes only one further mark. But there is no W115 with that speedometre i think. 2. It also sometimes occupies a special position regarding its trim options, if I'm not mistaken. 3. In many export markets in Europe, it was more popular than the 250 or 280 for tax reasons. https://www.alltagsklassiker.de/fahrzeuge/mercedes-benz-2306-w114-8 Link to "kultgarage.de" |

@s13a It would be nice if it could be classified based on the sound of the engine, although I know this is often questioned, as it is post-processed in the studio or generally drowned out by noise, etc.? |

@andrepa, I'm afraid the sound of the engine was almost muted by the ongoing soundtrack throughout the scene, so it's a bit of a challenge for the untrained and slightly tone-deaf ear of mine to determine what sort of sound it makes ![]() |

I believe there're at least two cars here: - One with the main speedometer and possibly the lower row of thumbs. That is a [W 114]. - One with the first row of thumbs. That is a 1968-73 [W 115]. (W115 had four cylinder inline petrol engines (200 or 220) or Diesel engines (200 D or 220 D), the W114 had six cylinder inline petrol engines.) |
