I think more than one Checker was used, this has just "Taxi" on the roof sign, while the other had a proper fleet number, as so many other cabs seen in the film.

Perhaps Travis didn't drive exactly the same cab every night, he worked for a company.

It could be a mistake by the filmakers (Using multiple taxis with subtle differences to represent one particular model). But as G-MANN said, he worked for a company, and it's common with some fleets that the driver won't always get the same car, but different cars every shift.

I think it's a combination of those two things ;) I know in films they often use various cars to play the role of one car (when it appears a lot in the film).

Cette voiture fut LE cliché du taxi américain dans les 50's, 60's, 70's et 80's. Un classique!

I would go 1974 to 1977 = newer bumper but still opposed wiper pattern and header-mounted RV mirror.

Nothing says Taxi more than a Checker. Scorsese picked this model for a reason.

"Taxi" roof sign is only visable from the front on cabs of that time, and every time you see the back of the roof sign, it says "3S96". Just watched it on AMC.

1975-1977 actually. Here we can see 'Unleaded petrol' sticker over fuel cap.

Not possible since the film was made in late 1975 and early 1976.

It's just brand new car. 1975 MY became in autumn 1974.

And yet it's still impossible for a vehicle in a movie made in 1975 to be a 1976 or 77 MY.

If it was completed in "early 1976", then you could safely remove m.y. 1977 as a possibility.

I find these cabs more stylish than Crown Vics.
