Many 70's cars had the knock knocks when they were brand new, it was caused by all the emissions equipment and engine tuning to make engines meet emissions standards, not MPG or performance.
caprice_96 ◊ 2013-02-14 23:53	It's not knocking, it's "run on" or "dieseling," where the engine contiunes for a few cycles after the ignition has been shut off. Carbureted engines were bad for this during the emission era and some infact had an "Anti-dieseling" solenoid. This sound is heard very often in hollywood movies, and I tend to believe its a commonly added sound effect, as are most engine noises in hollywood.

Elliot Page ◊ 2025-06-12 09:11	this used to be my dad's '77 Monte Carlo; it was originally black, with red leather interior; my dad had it painted grey because black was too hot in the summer came with a NOS factory 1973 454-cid engine, because the original engine was damaged at the factory during installation.
