Robert, I guess all soviet bonnet buses were based on GAZ chassis. I think it is a MFM mongrel, I will show it with the thumbs. I would recognize original KAVZik immediately, Kurgan where KAVZ and Kurganmashzavod are located, is my native city ![]() |

^ Now anyone can compare the thumbs with original KAvZ 685 pictures and see for himself this mongrel has little in common with KAvZik. -- Last edit: 2024-12-01 23:25:25 |

This is one more thing proving my viewpoint. Yes, in 1971-84 extended GAZ-53A chassis (GAZ-53-40) with fenders but without cabin were delivered to KAvZ to be installed with KAvZ 685 bus body, but ready-made bus had its own KAvZ logo: ![]() |

A mongrel? |

Maybe a mongrel. But there was alot of Auto-Repair Plants (АРЗ/ARZ) that made such busses on GAZ basis. Due the shape of front door it closer to ![]() Which can be product of ОЭАрЗ/OAeArZ (Saratov) or КАрЗ/KArZ (Kuybyshev, now Samara). Model from Saratov even had own name ZAP-21. While KArZ's version were just "bus on the GAZ 53 A truck's basis" or A53. https://dzen.ru/a/Xk_c6oO9CQt-mI3B https://oldsaratov.ru/tags/avtobus-zap-21#gsc.tab=0 -- Last edit: 2024-12-10 02:14:01 |
