zodiac ◊ 2022-12-14 19:49	Made for the U.S. because of the number plate. (Illuminated from the sides rather from beneath.) There're a few options; the 1971-72 280 SE 4.5 and 280 SEL 4.5 [both W108], and the 1968-72 300 SEL 6.3 and the 1971-72 300 SEL 4.5 [both W109] as the 3.5 was never sold in the U.S (not any version as it was considered too slow compared with the performance you could get from any of the V8 powered U.S. cars.). If one have a look at /vehicle_1734091.html I believe the rear doors are too short to be a SEL. I also believe it says 4.5 to the right which is far more likely to be destroyed than the 6.3. All things considered I belive it's a 1971-72 Mercedes-Benz 280 SE 4.5 [W108].

V12Merlin ◊ 2026-01-30 07:31	The dead giveaway for a 300SEL (as opposed to a 280SEL, which has the same wheelbase) is the presence of thicker chrome trim around the side windows, which this car doesn’t have. So it’s likely a 280.
