johnfromstaffs wrote Saunders Roe.

So built on Anglesey, N Wales at the former works for converting/maintaining Catalina flying boats in WW2 - "SARO bodied 250 RTs for London Transport between 1948 and 1950 (RT 1152–1401)" from wiki (almost at end of page)

From what they say here most (all?) of the SARO bodied RTs were disposed of at the first seven year inspection, which would be 1956 ish. It also says many had roofboxes, and I have read somewhere that they all did. So this chap may be a re-bodied coffin dodger.

This:- http://www.countrybus.org/RT/RT3s.htm#top

refers to the builder as Saunders Engineering, but still on Anglesey. It also contradicts the early disposal theory, saying that once the bulkhead cracking problem was resolved the bodies were well built and strong, many putting in 20 years’ service.

You pays yer money and you takes yer choice.

I think I’m more inclined to believe Ian.
