Really 5 stars? Or just 4?

No, 5 stars is correct, because it was used throughout the entire Short Film, since the robber (The main character) waits for the robbers to come when he realises that his wife & baby were in danger, he drives away at the end leaving the 2 robbers behind

I think that qualifies as 4 stars still. 5 stars is for special cases where the plot would be non-existant if it wasn't for the car in question.
The car is merely a plot vehicle, but not a plot device. Had the short film solely been about the same characters stealing the car in question, it would be 5 stars, for instance.
Here's an example of a 4 star car in a short film. The car is used by the characters, but isn't that essential to the plot.
While here's an example of a 5 star car in a short film. The owners grow tired of their old rickety car so they mistreat it and abandon it in the woods. Some time later the car comes back to life and stalks its former owners.
Hope that explained it to some extent.
