Re: The "CGI" look - the cars and actors were shot in studio - according to the article below, quite a small soundstage. The lighting is close, but too soft to look accurate for the highly stylized CGI background.

Definitely one of the weakest CGI compositions in the entire film, but who knows how much time the VFX team had to work on it? Sometimes the turnaround times for various shots aren't long enough for a good result.

The Convair looks all manners of off too; it looks as if a 707 model was chopped up just enough to pass for the 880.
