A few years ago Oxford Diecast started a tie-up with Aston Martin to release lots of shiny new DB-whatevers in 1:43 and some 1:76, including a series of DB4 GT Zagatos. The launch model was 2 VEV in 2 liveries - plain and Jim Clark's 1961 TT racer When it was released, several magazine reviews slated it for not looking right for a DB4 Zagato, but no-one solved why. However the answer lies within the auction history linked above, and the 1962 rebuild around the DP209 prototype. Aston Martin presumably facilitated access to 2 VEV as it is now, so Oxford did their magic processes and delivered a model, which is very nice, and in the road livery a good match for the version pictured for this entry, but completely wrong for the 1961 Jim Clark version which was a normal Zagato. Oxford then did a third version (red Zagato road car AE 500, chassis 0176/R) which continued the erroneous use of the DP209-based casting. And then the penny presumably dropped that there'd been a cock-up as nothing further emerged. So for any DB4 Zagato model collectors out there, Oxford's plain 2 VEV is the only correct one of the three if you're prepared to accept that it's only accurate for [DB4GT/0183] as it is now. And it's a unique opportunity because no-one else as far as I know has modelled this DP209-rebuilt incarnation. Otherwise, if you want an accurate DB4GT Zagato model of 2 VEV or AE 500, go to Vitesse's range, which includes both cars, although 2 VEV is a different 1961 race livery.
