Brand new for 1955... Surprising this was spotted instead of the Crown when the Crown'd have been more popular.

Guessing it was cheaper to source the Master in Tokyo since the Kanto Auto Works factory was closer?

It's actually nothing strange. The film is shot in the first half of 1955. The Crown and Master went on sale simultaneously on January 7, 1955. Initially, for the first few months the Toyopet Master vastly outsold the Toyopet Crown. The reason was that the Master had a leaf spring suspension more suitable for taxi use, while the Crown's independent suspension was more geared towards private car use. Taxi drivers therefore preferred the Master, until the Crown's suspension proved strong enough for use as a taxi. So by the end of 1955 the Crown began to outsell the Master and the Master finally went out of production in November 1956 after 7,403 units had been built.
As a curiosity the presentation of the 2 models on January 7, 1955
