That's a 1995–1998 Bimantara Nenggala [J1]! First one on the site! This is essentially a rebadged first generation Hyundai Elantra for the Indonesian market, as a part of Indonesian presidential instruction regarding the development of the national car industry, following the first generation Kia Sephia becoming the Timor S5 Series and the first generation Hyundai Accent becoming the Bimantara Cakra that slots below the Nenggala. Just like the S5 Series and Cakra, these were locally built in there. Unfortunately, the 1997 Asian financial crisis hits Asia so hard, so with Indonesia, the Nenggala was discontinued in 1998. The Cakra lives on as the Hyundai Accent in late 1998, also facelifted, then later, renamed to the Hyundai Excel for fleet use from 2001 to 2005 (some taxicabs remains to operate these until 2006, one year after the [X3] Accent stopped in production locally). -- Last edit: 2022-11-02 06:49:33 |
